Everlast Medicine Ball used as a prop in the original film! Ephemera, unsigned. Black medicine ball, 11-pound, 11-inch, diameter, with yellow Everlast label. Attached tag from the Ellis Prop Company attests to the ball's use in the film. Prop used in the first Rocky film (1976), which propelled writer-actor Sylvester Stallone to stardom, earned three Oscars and inspired five sequels. Rocky's use of this ball in the film boosted the popularity of medicine balls in exercise programs. Accompanied by: unsigned photo (color, 11x8½) of a scene from the film, showing Stallone as Rocky Balboa in training. Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay for Rocky and insisted on starring in it. The surprise hit, filmed for under $1 million, grossed $225 million worldwide, won three Academy Awards including Best Picture, and spawned 5 sequels. Stallone starred as apparently washed up club boxer Rocky Balboa, a collector for a loan shark. Carl Weathers, playing world champion Apollo Creed, decides a fight with "the Italian Stallion" will be great publicity. He hardly expects the tough fight he gets after the out of shape Rocky trains furiously for their match. Given the low budget, many small parts were played by family members and studio employees, but strong supporting performances by Burgess Meredith, Talia Shire and Burt Young enhanced the movie. After achieving fame with Rocky, Stallone (b. 1946) starred in the three Rambo movies (1982-1988). His many other films, mostly in the action genre, have included Cobra (1986), Tango & Cash (1989), Cliffhanger (1883), Demolition Man (1993), Cop Land (1997) and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, and Sly also lent his voice to the 1998 animated feature, Antz.
