He signs on this first day cover honoring Carl Sandburg
First Day Cover signed: "Rod McKuen", 6½x3½. First Day Cover honoring Carl Sandburg, two 13-cent stamps affixed, postmarked Galesburg, Illinois, January 6, 1978, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Poet, singer, songwriter and actor Rod McKuen (1933-2015) was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Song (1970, "Jean", The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie) and Best Score (1971, A Boy Named Charlie Brown). He won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word recording, Lonesome Cities (1968). Some critics deride McKuen's poems as overly sentimental, but no less a poet than W. H. Auden praised them as "love letters to the world." Fine condition.
