ROD McKUEN
He sends a typed letter to Phyllis Diller about being in New York when she had her open house
Typed Letter signed: "Rod", 1p, 6¼x9. No place, 1981 January 9. On personal letterhead to actress/comedienne Phyllis Diller. In full: "I did it again! Was in New York when you had your open house. Would love to have come .... on the other hand I never can remember your house, your friendship, or your love being closed to me. Ditto from my house to yours and from me to you. Much affection". Poet, singer, songwriter and actor Rod McKuen (1933-2015) was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Song (1970, "Jean", The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie) and Best Score (1971, A Boy Named Charlie Brown). He won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word recording, Lonesome Cities (1968). Some critics deride McKuen's poems as overly sentimental, but no less a poet than W. H. Auden praised them as "love letters to the world." Paper loss in left corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
