ROD SERLING
Rod Serling sends a typed letter inviting Mr. Dale Olson to a musical.
Typed Letter Signed: "Rod", 1p, 8½x11. Pacific Palisades, California, 1966 January 14. To Mr. Dale Olson, Los Angeles, inviting him to "an original musical entitled THE GREATEST MOUSE THAT EVER LIVED. It is performed by a group of Watts high school youngsters who are at the moment desperately trying to create a theatre and drama workshop...The theatre is called The Ebony Showcase...I am only too aware of the demands made on both your time and your compassion. But if there were any worthier cause than this facing us - I don't know of any. Please come." Rod Serling (1924-1975), one of the creative geniuses of early television, received an Emmy Award for his Requiem for a Heavyweight in 1957. Serling, who began selling dramas to television in 1951, created over 90 scripts in the next four years. In 1955, he received his first Emmy, for Patterns, but since many of his scripts dealt with controversial subjects - and were targeted by the CBS censors - he turned to science-fiction. His first series, The Twilight Zone, which he created and hosted, aired from 1959-1964, and was television's most popular science-fiction series, winning an Emmy in 1959. The Ebony Showcase Theatre and Cultural Arts Center still exists in Los Angeles. File holes at blank right margin. Fine condition.
