STEIGER WRITES TO HIS LAWYER ABOUT HIS WIFE, CLAIRE BLOOM, AND THEIR BABY DAUGHTER

ROD STEIGER.
ALS: "Rod Steiger", 2½p (front and verso), 4¼x5½. No place, 1961 March 9. To Arnold (his lawyer Arnold Weissberger). In full: "Thank you so much for sending the review. It was so kind of you. Claire will and is now in London. Her play is by Sarte (sic Sartre) and called 'Loser Wins' - I received a letter from her this morning saying all is well. Our baby is now exploring the sights and sounds of London town. Also, the title of the play is to be changed, to what I don't know. As to Claire being in London in June - I think perhaps in the early part but after the tax will force a hasty departure. Thank you again-". Rod Steiger (1925-2002) was married to British actress CLAIRE BLOOM from 1959 until their divorce in 1969. Their daughter Anna was born in 1960. The U.S. title of Sartre's Loser Wins wasThe Condemned of Altona. Steiger received Oscar nominations in 1954 (Best Supporting Actor, On the Waterfront) and 1965 (Best Actor, The Pawnbroker). He won the 1967 Academy Award for Best Actor for portraying a well-meaning but prejudiced Southern sheriff in In the Heat of the Night. Slightly soiled. File holes at top.
