ROD STEIGER. DS: "Rod Steiger" and "R.S." 1p, 8½x14 with 3p, 8½x11 rider. Co-signed: "A E Hotchner" and "AEH". No place, 1961 April. Contract between The Actors' Equity Association and Steiger for his services in the play The Short Happy Life beginning 1961 September 12 for $2,000.00 per week for the run of the production for which the actor is engaged.Rod Steiger (1925-2002) was awarded the 1967 Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a well-meaning but prejudiced Southern sheriff in In the Heat of the Night. He also received Oscar nominations in 1954 (Best Supporting Actor, On the Waterfront) and 1965 (Best Actor, The Pawnbroker). From 1959-1969, he was married to actress Claire Bloom. They co-starred in the 1969 films, Three Into Two Won't Go and The Illustrated Man. Steiger's other film credits include Oklahoma! (1955), The Longest Day (1962), Doctor Zhivago (1965), Lucky Luciano (1974), W.C. Fields and Me (1976), The Amityville Horror (1979), American Gothic (1987), The Player (1992) and Mars Attacks!
