RODDY “ROWDY” PIPER
Large signed 20x16 color photograph of Mr. T hauling Piper up onto his shoulder during a match. Both were part of 1985's The War to Settle the Score, the highest-profile pro wrestling feud up to that time
Photograph Signed "Rowdy/Roddy/Piper" in silver ink. Color, 20x16. Accompanied by: Small unsigned color photo of Piper signing this or a similar photograph, captioned across front "Property of/Authentic Signings, Inc." Both photos have holographic authentication labels. Though this photo is undated, this photo was probably taken during Piper's "War to Settle the Score" feud with Hulk Hogan in 1985; Mr. T fought on Hogan's side. The War to Settle the Score was the highest profile professional wrestling feud up to that time. Piper and Mr. T met again in a boxing match at 1986's Wrestlemania II; Piper was DQ'd after bodyslamming Mr. T. Piper, a professional wrestler, is often billed as a Glaswegian, but was born Roderick George Toombs in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Manitoba in 1954 to parents of Scottish descent. He left home being expelled from junior high and having a falling out with his father and, at age 15, became the youngest professional wrestler ever. Piper is a controversial wrestler for his comments both in the ring and off. He's played both heel and face, but is best known as a heel. After jobbing in the AWA from 1973 to 1975, he became one of the most hated heels in Gene and Mike LeBell's NWA Hollywood Wrestling (he also gained his black belt in judo from Gene LeBell). He joined the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) in 1980, which is where many wrestling fans first encountered him. While with the WWF, he hosted Piper's Pit from 1984 to 1987, an interview segment that often degenerated into on-air brawls and, more importantly, generated lots of feuds. Probably his most high-profile feuds was The War to Settle the Score with champ Hulk Hogan, which involved Captain Lou Albano, Piper's "bodyguard" and ringmate "Cowboy" Bob Orton and even actor Mr. T. and signer Cyndi Lauper. He left wrestling from 1986 to 1989 to pursue acting; science fiction fans may know him from his starring roles in the cult classic Hell Comes to Frogtown (1987) and in John Carpenter's They Live (1988). Since 1989, he's wrestled, on and off, with the WWF and the now-defunct WCW. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
