ROGER CRAIG
Handwritten letter on Giants stationery. Declining to participate in a card show on
advice of counsel!
Autograph Letter signed: "Roger Craig", 1 page, 5½x8. No place, no date, on (baseball) Giants
letterhead to "Steve". In full: "After talking with my boss, he and my attorney have advised me
not to participate in your card show at the present time. Maybe in the future. Sorry to have to
inform you. Regards". Roger Craig (1930-2023) pitched for the Brooklyn and LA Dodgers
(1955-1961), including the Dodgers first World Championship (1955) and two more
World Series (1956, lost to the Yankees, and 1959, defeating the White Sox). An original
New York Met, he lost over 20 games in both seasons there (10-24 in 1962, 5-22 in
1963). He spent one more season with the Cardinals, Reds and Phillies, notching another
World Series ring with St Louis (1964). He retired from the mound, but not from baseball,
after the 1966 season, but continued as a respected pitching coach and manager: (San Diego
Padres, 1978-1979), San Francisco Giants (1985-1992), winning an NL Pennant in 1989.
He probably wrote this letter while with the Giants. Heavily creased. Corners creased and
lightly worn. Unknown stain at center. Otherwise, fine condition.
