ROGER CRAIG
His double signed contract with the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues
as pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dated in 1959, Craig led the Dodgers to their
second World Series Championship later that season.
Contract Double signed: "Roger Craig", and again on second page, "Roger Craig", 4 pages (front
and verso), 8½x11. Also signed by "Geo. Trautman" George Trautman President of the
National Association, "Leslie M. O'Connor" Leslie M. O'Connor President of the Pacific
Coast League, and "Spencer F. Harris", Spencer Harris, authorized club official. Annual
contract with the National Association of Professional Baseball League. With his signature,
Craig has signed to "render skilled services as a baseball player in connection with all games of
the Club during the year 1959, including the Club's training season, the Club's exhibition
games, the Club's playing season, any official series in which the Club may participate, and in
any game or games in the receipts of which the Player may be entitled to share, at the rate of
$900 a month." Roger Craig (1930-2023) pitched for the Brooklyn and LA Dodgers
(1955-1961), including the Dodgers first World Championship (1955) and two more
World Series (1956, lost to the Yankees, and 1959, defeating the White Sox). An original
New York Met, he lost over 20 games in both seasons there (10-24 in 1962, 5-22 in
1963). He spent one more season with the Cardinals, Reds and Phillies, notching another
World Series ring with St Louis (1964). He retired from the mound, but not from baseball,
after the 1966 season, but continued as a respected pitching coach and manager: (San Diego
Padres, 1978-1979), San Francisco Giants (1985-1992), winning an NL Pennant in 1989.
GEORGE TRAUTMAN (1890-1963), was the President of the National Association of
Baseball Leagues from 1947 until his death in 1963. LESLIE M. O'CONNOR (1889-1966)
was General Manager for the Chicago White Sox from 1946-1948, later becoming the
President of the Pacific Coast League. SPENCER F. HARRIS (1900-1982) was a former
MLB player Chicago White Sox and the Philadelphia Athletics. He later served as an official
for the Inland Empire Baseball Club. Creased from folds. Heavy moisture damage. Slightly
