ROGER CRAIG - TRADING/SPORTS CARD SIGNED - HFSID 20746
Price: $120.00
ROGER CRAIG
Signed baseball card for 1963, shown as an original Met
Sports Card signed: "Roger Craig". Color, 2½x3½. Topps baseball card
#197 for 1963, with career pitching record through 1962 printed on verso. An
old baseball saying states that it takes a darn fine pitcher to lose 20 games.
Craig proved that adage true with the expansion New York Mets in 1962, going
10-24. Those 10 wins were 25% of the teams wins for the season! He lost 22
for them in 1963. In 1986, "Sports Illustrated" called Roger Craig "the
acknowledged maestro of the split-fingered fastball." In 1985, he taught the
split-finger to the Astros' Mike Scott, who won the 1986 Cy Young award. Craig
had previously managed the 1978-79 Padres and served as a scout and pitching
coach, notably in Detroit, where he taught Jack Morris the split-finger. As a
manager, Craig was noted for one-run tactics and for calling lots of pitchouts.
He won the NL West title in 1987 and the NL pennant in 1989. During his
earlier years, he pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers, LA Dodgers and St. Louis
Cardinals, as well as for the Mets. Fine condition.
