No place, [1962 January 9] Countersigned: "Thos M. Lacey" for Cooper Tire & Rubber
Conpany. Top portion of document cut away. In part: "In consideration whereof, Roger
Maris…hereby promises and agrees to grant Cooper the exclusive right to use tire
testimonials…." The line: "and at all times to save said Company harmless from any
action brought against or claim made upon said company arising out if its use of such
advertising materials" has been crossed out and initialed "RM". After the typed notice of
termination of the one year contract: "Following such termination, Cooper shall have the
right of first refusal with respect to any subsequent tire testimonial agreements", Maris
has initialed "RM" and handwritten: "for a period of one year following such
termination". This agreement was signed by Roger Maris on January 9, 1962, just
three months after he broke Babe Ruth's single season home run record, hitting his
61st home run at Yankee Stadium on October 1, 1961. 4-inch diagonal tape repair touches
"R" in Roger and shows stain. Lightly creased. PSA/DNA authentication sticker (B38863)
affixed to verso.
