B/w, 8x10, actual image 5½x7¼. Rogers Clark Ballard Morton (1914-1979)
was Secretary of the Interior under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald
Ford (1971-1975). A former WWII veteran, Morton had served as U.S.
Congressman from Maryland (1963-1971) and Chairman of the Republican
National Committee (1969-1971) before taking the Cabinet post. He was later
Secretary of Commerce (1975-1976) under Ford, and Morton headed Ford's
unsuccessful re-election campaign. Morton was the brother of Thurston B.
Morton (1907-1982), also a former Congressman (representing Kentucky,
1947-1953) and Chairman of the Republican National Committee (1959-1961) as well
as a Republican U.S. Senator from Kentucky (1957-1968). Corners creased and
rounded. Ink notes on verso in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine
condition.
