Autograph letter signed: " Roland Bottomley", in black ink, 1 page, 5½x8¼. Written on stationery form the Hotel Virginia, Long Beach, California, Nov. 25, 1916. To "Dear Mr. Calvert" in full: "Many thank for you letter & good wishes. I have much pleasure in sending you my photograph & I hope you will look out for my new serial with Ruth Roland. "The Neglected Wife" Nights I will be playing a very nice (man) myself, at least I don't like it as I am a sort of villain. With best wishes. Yours sincerely". Roland Bottomley (1880-1947), born in England, was a stage and film actor, popular on Broadway for 30 years. Beginning in vaudeville acts, Bottomley started appearing on Broadway in the early 1910's, debuting in Anna Held's All Star Variete Jubilee (1913). Later he had roles in Lassie (1920), Julius Caesar (1927) and Gay Divorce (1932-1933). In films he landed his first role in 1915 in The Green Cloak, which was followed by The Tricksters (1916), The Devil (1917), The Charming Deceiver (1921) and The Dawn of a Tomorrow (1924). After 1925 he resigned to the stage as a performer and writer. His last stage work came in 1944 in Slightly Scandalous. Normal mailing folds. Creased and toned. Staple holes at top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
