Vintage photograph of the Broadway star and film actor shown in a suit and plaid bowtie (6¼x8¼). Extremely rare!

Inscribed Photograph signed: "To George Calvert/ with sincere good wishes/ from/ Roland Bottomley/ Nov. 25'11". Sepia, 6¼x8¼. Roland Bottomley (1880-1947), born in England, was a stage and film actor who was popular on Broadway for 30 years. Bottomley started appearing on Broadway in the early 1910's, debuting in Anna Held's All Star Variete Jubilee (1913). Later he had roles in Lassie (1920), Julius Caesar (1927) and Gay Divorce (1932-1933). In films he landed his first role in 1915 in The Green Cloak, which was followed by The Tricksters (1916), The Charming Deceiver (1921) and The Dawn of a Tomorrow (1924).  After 1925 he resigned to the stage as a performer and writer.  His last stage work came in 1944 in Slightly Scandalous. Heavily creased and worn with tears and surface serrations. 2½ in tear near signature. Corners and edges worn. Toned. Creased throughout signature (still legible). Paper loss.
