5½x8 with b/w 4¼x5¼ photo affixed. English-born actor Roland Young
(1887-1953) made his West End stage debut in 1908 and his Broadway debut 4 years
later, alternating between British and US stages thereafter He served in the US
Army during World War I. In his first silent film (1922), he portrayed Watson
to John Barrymore's Sherlock Holmes. He appeared in several comedies
opposite Jeannette MacDonald, and had his most famous role as the ghost
Topper in the original 1937 film and two sequels. He played Katharine
Hepburn's uncle in The Philadelphia Story (1940). He continued in
supporting roles through the 1940s and on the TV playhouses of the early
fifties. Soiled and stained. Paper and adhesive residue (previous mounting) on
