ROMANCE RIDE THE RANGE MOVIE CAST
Lobby card for the 1936 Western film, signed by stars Fred Scott and Marion Shilling, with Scott dating his signature 1987
Inscribed lobby card signed: "To Clint/Fred Scott/'87", "My best/to Clint/Marion Shilling", Colorized 14x11. Former vaudeville entertainer and opera singer FRED SCOTT (1902-1992), who had appeared in some Mack Sennett comedies of the silent film era, gained popularity as "the Silvery-Voiced Buckaroo" in low-budget Western movies of the 1930s. His highest rated films at All-Movie guide were The Roaming Cowboy, The Rangers' Roundup and Knight of the Plains, all from the late 1930s. MARION SHILLING (1910-2004) went from stage work to her film debut, Wise Girls (1929), and starred opposite William Powell in Shadow of the Law the following year. She was a WAMPAS Baby Star of 1931. She made 42 films through 1936, mostly B-Westerns and crime dramas. A good rider (unlike many of her rival Western heroines), she co-starred with many of the Western heroes of the day, including Buck Jones, Fred Scott and Tim McCoy. Noteworthy was her 1934 serial The Red Rider, with Scott. She retired from acting when she married, but returned in later years on the film nostalgia circuit. Corners lightly worn and creased. Heavily toned. Pin holes in corners and top and bottom margins. Small tear on bottom margin. Soiled across. Edges lightly worn and creased. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Stain on top right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
