Signed Topps baseball card of pitcher Ron Blackburn as a Pittsburgh Pirate
Sports card signed "Ron/Blackburn" in blue ink. Color, 3½x2½. Topps card no. 209 with lifetime and 1959 stats on verso. ©Topps Chewing Gum, Inc. Blackburn (1935-1998), born Ronald Hamilton Blackburn, pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1958 and 1959. His major league debut was on Opening Day in 1958 against the Milwaukee Braves. The first batter he faced in his major league career was Hank Aaron. Aaron hit a single off of Blackburn, but he managed to keep the next nine batters off base for his first Major League win. After retiring from baseball, he was a teacher and baseball coach at North Carolina's Catawba College and then recreation director at the Western Correction Center in Morganton, North Carolina. Lightly toned and bowed. Parts of signature have low contrast but are legible. Light scuff marks on image. Otherwise in fine condition.
