Photograph signed: "Thanx!/Ron Carter". B/w, 8x10. Ron Carter (b. 1937) trained as a classical cellist, but switched to double bass, a big gain for the jazz community. He is heard on over 2,500 albums, including 37 as soloist or ensemble leader and the rest as a sought-after sideman for performers like Herbie Hancock, Coleman Hawkins, Quincy Jones, Paul Desmond, Stan Getz and Roberta Flack. He earned special acclaim, however, as a member of the second Miles Davis Quintet, beginning with the album Seven Steps to Heaven (1963). Three of his own compositions are heard on Davis' next release, E.S.P. While continuing to perform, Carter was a veteran music teacher at C.C.N.Y., and joined the Juilliard faculty in 2008. An authorized biography by Dan Oulette, Ron Coleman: Finding the Right Notes was published in 2008. Fine condition.
