In addition to Ron's starring role as Opie, both his father, Rance, and his younger brother, Clint, guest starred in various roles on the show in 1962, 1963 and 1964. Actor/director RON HOWARD (born in 1954) is best known for his roles as Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968) and for his Golden Globe-nominated role as Richard "Richie" Cunningham on Happy Days (1974-1980). In addition to his acting career, Ron has a reputation as one of the most versatile and gifted director's of his generation. He won the 2001 Academy Award for Best Director for A Beautiful Mind (2001), and his other directing credits include such films as Night Shift (1982), Splash (1984), Cocoon (1985), Backdraft (1991), Apollo 13 (1995), Ransom (1996), Edtv (1999), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) and Cinderella Man (2005). RANCE HOWARD (1929-2017), the father of Ron and Clint, started his career as a stage performer in such plays as Mister Roberts and The Seven Year Itch. In addition to remaining a busy stage actor, Rance was cast in a number of Ron's films (although he did not rely on his son's fame to find work), and he had supporting roles in such films as The Music Man (1962) and The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1963) based on Ron's recommendations. Rance has also appeared as a guest star on several television series. CLINT HOWARD (born in 1959) made his (uncredited) film debut as a child actor in The Courtship of Eddie's Father with his father and brother, and he would go on to star in a long list of feature films. In adddition to appearing in several films that were directed by Ron, Clint has also been seen in other films, including Tango & Cash (1989), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) and The Cat in the Hat (2003), and he has lent his voice talents to animated films, including Curious George (2006) and voicing "Roo" in several Winnie the Pooh films. He also starred on a number of TV series, including Gentle Ben (1967-1969), which also featured his father, and Clint has made a number of TV movies, directed, produced and starred on The Clint Howard Variety Show (2002) and made guest appearances on a long list of TV shows.
