5x8. Football coach Ron Meyer was born on February 17, 1941 in Miami Beach,
Florida. He began his head coaching career at the University of Las
Vegas where he coached from 1971 until 1975, leading the team to an 11-0
record in 1974. He left UNLV to become head coach at Southern Methodist
University. Coaching there from 1976 until 1981, his team won the
Southern Conference Championship in 1981. In 1982 Meyer moved on to coach in
the National Football League and was named the AFC Coach of the Year in his
first season. That season he led the New England Patriots to the
playoffs and defeated the Miami Dolphins in the now famous
"Snowplow Game". He was fired by the
Patriots in 1984 but would return to the in NFL in 1986 as head coach of the
Indianapolis Colts. After leading the 0-13 1986 Colts to three victories to
end their season, he coached the 1987 team to the AFC East Division Title and
was named AFC Coach of the Year for a second time. He remained head coach of
the Colts until 1991, but the team would never return to the playoffs during
that time. After his time as a NFL head coach Meyer coached in the Canadian
Football League, the XFL and was a sports analyst for CNN and the Canadian
