Taylor, born Ronald Wesley Taylor in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1937, was a major league pitcher from 1962 to 1971, mostly with the New York Mets. Primarily a relief pitcher, Taylor placed in the National League Top 10 for saves four times (1963 and 1968-1970). Taylor was also part of two World Series-winning teams, the 1964 St. Louis Cardinals and 1969 New York Mets; he pitched a save for both teams at the big dance and was credited with a win during the Mets' 1969 pennant run. Taylor became interested in medicine a 1969 USO tour of Vietnam; he earned his medical degree in 1977 at the age of 35, and in 1979 was hired the team physician for the Toronto Blue Jays. In so doing, he became the first former major leaguer to return to baseball as a team physician. Taylor still practices medicine as of this biography. In all, he earned a 45-43 record with a 3.93 ERA, 72 saves and 464 strikeouts. Lightly toned, creased and bowed, otherwise in fine condition.
