CHALLENGER STS-11/41B: BOB STEWART, RON McNAIR, BOB STEWART, ROBERT L. GIBSON
Official NASA photo of the crew of STS-11/41B, with Bob Stewart and Bruce McCandless in spacesuits and the rest of the crew in blue NASA jumpsuits, signed by four of the five crew members. This was McNair's first shuttle flight before the ill-fated flight of Challenger mission STS-51L.
Official NASA photograph signed: "Bob Stewart", "Ron McNair", "Bruce/McCandless" and "Robert L Gibson". Color, 8x10 overall, image 7½x8¾ (one surface). Captioned: "Space Shuttle Orbiter OV-099/(Challenger) Crew Members" with NASA logo. The five-man crew of the first shuttle to land in Florida. The Feb. 3-11, 1984 mission included the first untethered space walk by Mission Specialist BRUCE McCANDLESS and a docking with the Russian spacecraft Soyuz-T10 on Feb. 9. Vance Brand (who did not sign this photo) was the Commander and ROBERT L. "HOOT" GIBSON was the pilot. This was also the first space flight for mission specialists ROBERT STEWART and RONALD McNAIR (1950-1986, born in Lake City, South Carolina)... and the last for McNair. McNair's next assignment was aboard Challenger 51-L, which exploded 73 seconds after launch on Jan. 28, 1986. Pen skipped while signing Gibson's signature, which is still legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
