ROSA KING
The feminist jazz instrumentalist and blues singer signs her name
with best wishes on this black and white photo
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Turners/The best always/From/Rosa
La King", B/w, 8x10. Rosa King (1939-2000) was an American jazz musician.
She was most well known for playing the saxophone, guitar and singing the
blues. Initially finding fame in Amsterdam, the blues musician played shows
alongside Ben. E. King, Eric Burden, and even had a saxophone battle
with Stan Getz, who brought her a great deal of attention. Although she kept
an apartment in New York City, she lived and thrived in Amsterdam, often touring
all over Europe. The feminist icon eventually dropped the "La" from her name in
later years. In 1999 Rosa returned to her home state of Georgia to play a show
as Rosa King and The Looters, adding several musicians to her show. As
a tribute to the American born jazz musician, the Rosa King Foundation was
established in the Netherlands to help young female musicians pursue their
dreams. Heavily creased. Bottom edge slightly worn. Lightly toned.
Otherwise, fine condition.
