ROWAN & MARTIN: DAN ROWAN and DICK MARTIN
Dan Rowan and Dick Martin sign a screening sheet for an appearance by them on a KABC radio program hosted by Keith Jackson.
Partly Printed Document Signed: "Dan Rowan" and "Dick Martin", 1p, 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, 1981 November 9. Screening sheet for an appearance by Rowan & Martin on a KABC radio program hosted by Keith Jackson from 10:15-10:57 a.m. The duo's appearance was to promote their TV special, Ultra Quiz. Rowan has printed his name in pencil next to his signature and Martin has printed his name and filled out the upper portion of the form in ink. Also signed by a screener, who has written at lower margin: "The first annual ultra Quiz is a two part television special on Ch. 4 Tues Nov 10 & 17th, hosted by Dick Martin and Dan Rowen (sic). They start out with two thousand contestants, eventually narrowing it down to one winner who wins $100,000 in prize money. It's based on a very successful show of the same type in Japan, running for the past five years in Japan." The All American Ultra Quiz, a two-week elimination program hosted by Rowan and Martin (who were assisted by John Harlan, Jayne Kennedy and Richard Simmons), was first aired on November 10, 1981. On the first show, 932 contestants gathered at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles to face contests that would whittle the group down to 84 contestants who were flown around the globe to face additional challenges. The two finalists arrived back at NBC Studios to face a final contest for the $100,000 grand prize (won by Craig Power). DAN ROWAN (1922-1987) and his partner DICK MARTIN (1922-2008) are best known as the zany hosts/performers on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1968-1973), the wildly popular show that featured such performers as Ruth Buzzi, Goldie Hawn, Arte Johnson, Lily Tomlin and JoAnne Worley. The two had previously hosted The Dean Martin Summer Show (1966-1967) and appeared together in two films, Once Upon a Horse (1958) and The Maltese Bippy (1969). Rowan had been a Hollywood scriptwriter before he met Martin, a TV and film actor. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled at right margin. Fine condition.
