DICK MARTIN (ROWAN & MARTIN)
Handwritten letter to Edie Adams, reminiscing about shows they did
together. Acquired from Adams' estate
Autograph Letter signed: "Dick", 1 page, 5½x8½. No place,
2004 June 21. On personal letterhead to "Dear Edie" [Adams]. In
full: "As the saying goes Thanks for the memories. What a hall - there to
see Gary Shear & Gordon Wile work - Those were special days - A fun era - I
remember you brought Charlie Barnet into the Riviera. Thank you, and hope we see
each other soon. Love". Dick Martin (1922-2008) is best
known as the zany co-host with Dan Rowan on Rowan & Martin's
Laugh-In (1968-1973), the wildly popular show that featured such
performers as Ruth Buzzi, Goldie Hawn, Arte Johnson, Lily Tomlin and JoAnne
Worley. The two, who had teamed up in 1958 for their debut film, Once Upon
a Horse, had previously hosted The Dean Martin Summer Show
(1966-1967) and would appear together in the 1969 film, The Maltese
Bippy. A frequent TV guest star in the 1970s, with several appearances on
The Bob Newhart Show. This letter, addressed to singer, actress and
businesswoman Edie Adams (1927-2008), was obtained from her estate. Adams worked
with Rowan & Martin often, on television and in Las Vegas, where she opened
for them at the Riviera. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
