ROWAN & MARTIN: DICK MARTIN
Dick Martin signs a document with Burt Sugarman, Inc. on behalf of Romart, Inc.
Photocopied Typed Document Signed: "Dick Martin" in ink, 2p, 8½x11, separate sheets. No place, no date, but circa 1974. In letter form to Burt Sugarman, Inc., Los Angeles, California. Begins: "Gentlemen". In part: "Concurrently herewith you are entering into an independent contractor's agreement with Romart, Inc. (herein called 'Contractor') for my services on the television program now entitled 'CELEBRITY SWEEPSTAKES' (herein called 'the Program')...As an inducement to you to enter into your agreement with Contractor and as a material part of the considerating moving you to do so, I hereby represent, warrant and agree...." Five points are listed, covering Martin's familiarity with the terms of the agreement, his commitment to the obligations set forth in the contract, compensation and liability. The second page lists fees (both domestic and foreign) for reruns of the program). Martin (1922-2008) appeared as a celebrity guest panelist on the TV game show, Celebrity Sweepstakes, which ran from 1974-1977, in 1974. His former co-host, Dan Rowan, also appeared on the program at that time. Dick Martin (born in 1922) is best known as the zany co-host (with Dan Rowan) on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1968-1973), the wildly popular show that featured such performers as Ruth Buzzi, Goldie Hawn, Arte Johnson, Lily Tomlin and JoAnne Worley. The two, who had teamed up in 1958 for their debut film, Once Upon a Horse, had previously hosted The Dean Martin Summer Show (1966-1967) and would appear together in the 1969 film, The Maltese Bippy. A frequent TV guest star in the 1970s, with several appearances on The Bob Newhart Show. Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper left corners. Usual black marks from photocopying. Fine condition.
