Dick Martin signs a document with Burt Sugarman, Inc. on behalf of
Romart, Inc.
Photocopied Typed Document Signed: "Dick Martin" in ink, 2p,
8½x11, separate sheets. No place, no date, but circa 1974. In letter form
to Burt Sugarman, Inc., Los Angeles, California. Begins:
"Gentlemen". In part: "Concurrently herewith you are entering
into an independent contractor's agreement with Romart, Inc. (herein called
'Contractor') for my services on the television program now entitled
'CELEBRITY SWEEPSTAKES' (herein called 'the Program')...As an inducement to
you to enter into your agreement with Contractor and as a material part of the
considerating moving you to do so, I hereby represent, warrant and
agree...." Five points are listed, covering Martin's familiarity with the
terms of the agreement, his commitment to the obligations set forth in the
contract, compensation and liability. The second page lists fees (both domestic
and foreign) for reruns of the program). Martin (1922-2008) appeared as a
celebrity guest panelist on the TV game show, Celebrity Sweepstakes,
which ran from 1974-1977, in 1974. His former co-host, Dan Rowan, also appeared
on the program at that time. Dick Martin (born in 1922) is best known as
the zany co-host (with Dan Rowan) on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In
(1968-1973), the wildly popular show that featured such performers as Ruth
Buzzi, Goldie Hawn, Arte Johnson, Lily Tomlin and JoAnne Worley. The two, who
had teamed up in 1958 for their debut film, Once Upon a Horse, had
previously hosted The Dean Martin Summer Show (1966-1967) and would
appear together in the 1969 film, The Maltese Bippy. A frequent TV guest
star in the 1970s, with several appearances on The Bob Newhart Show.
Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper left corners. Usual black marks from
photocopying. Fine condition.
