ROY ROGERS
The "King of the Cowboys", six-guns in hand, strikes an action pose.
Photograph signed: "Happy trails/Roy Rogers". B/w, 8x10. A founding
member of the Western music group, Sons of the Pioneers (1934), Roy
Rogers (1911-1998), born Leonard Slye, broke into films as a singing
cowboy the following year. Beginning in 1938, he had starring roles in
dozens of Western films that featured his horse, Trigger, and his frequent
sidekick, Gabby Hayes. Another frequent co-star was Dale Evans. Roy and
Dale co-starred in several films, including The Cowboy and the
Senorita (1944), The Yellow Rose of Texas (1944), Don't
Fence Me In (1945), My Pal Trigger (1946) and Apache Rose
(1947), before they were married in 1947. They then starred on television on
The Roy Rogers Show (1951-1957) and The Roy Rogers
and Dale Evans Show (1962-1963), which closed with their theme
song, "Happy Trails to You", written by Evans. Married for 50 years, "The
King of the Cowboys" and "The Queen of the West" were a devoted
couple with many children (many whom they adopted) and grandchildren. Ink is
lightly beaded (completely legible). Slightly creased at blank corners and
margin. Minor surface creases (not evident head on), defects from original
negative have reproduced on print. Overall, fine condition.
