Roy Rogers and Clayton Moore signs a philatelic envelope honoring the centennial of Kansas City, Missouri.
Philatelic Envelope signed: "Roy Rogers" and "Clayton Moore/'The Lone Ranger'", 6½x3½. First Day Cover bearing a pair of 3-cent stamps honoring the centennial of Kansas City, Missouri, postmarked Kansas City, Missouri`, June 8, 1950, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Cachet, depicting a stagecoach, is captioned: "Midwest Centenary/Kansas City/Gateway to the West". A founding member of the Western music group, Sons of the Pioneers (1934), ROY ROGERS (1911-1998) broke into films as a singing cowboy the following year. Beginning in 1938, he had starring roles in dozens of Western films. His horse was Trigger, his frequent sidekick Gabby Hayes, and his frequent co-star Dale Evans, whom he married in 1947. He starred in his own TV series (1951-1957). A devoted husband and father, Rogers was also a successful businessman with wide-ranging holdings, including a TV production company, a restaurant chain and many Western products. CLAYTON MOORE (1914-1999) entered show business as a young circus acrobat. He worked his way up the ladder in Hollywood Westerns from extra to stunt man to supporting actor, reaching stardom on television as The Lone Ranger from 1949-1952 and 1954-1957. Thereafter he made a good living from commercials and public appearances as The Lone Ranger. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
