Roy Rogers and Dale Evans sign a lobby card for their movie Sunset
in El Dorado.
Lobby Card signed: "Roy Rogers" and "Dale
Evans". Color, 14x11. Promotion for their 1945 Republic film, Sunset
in El Dorado, directed by Frank McDonald. Rogers, billed as "King of the
Cowboys", and his horse, Trigger, "The Smartest Horse in the Movies" are listed
as co-stars. The movie featured George "Gabby" Hayes, Dale Evans (as Lucille
Wiley), Bob Nolan and The Sons of the Pioneers. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans
also co-starred in a number of other films, including The Cowboy and
the Senorita (1944), The Yellow Rose of Texas
(1944), Don't Fence Me In (1945), My Pal
Trigger (1946) and Apache Rose (1947), before they were
married in 1947. They then starred on television on The Roy Rogers
Show (1951-1957) and The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show
(1962-1963), which closed with their theme song, "Happy Trails to
You", written by Evans. Married for 50 years, "The King of the Cowboys" and
"The Queen of the West" were a devoted couple with many children (many whom they
adopted) and grandchildren. Roy died in 1998; Dale passed away in 2001. Lightly
creased. ¼-inch tears at blank left and upper edges. Chipped at upper blank
edge, lower left blank corner chipped away. Tack holes at upper margin. Slightly
soiled. Collector's stamps on verso (no show through). Overall, fine
condition.
