ROY ROGERS
Roy Rogers signs a lobby card for his film The Ranger and the Lady.
Lobby Card signed: "Roy Rogers". Color, 14x11. Promotion for his 1940 Republic film, The Ranger and the Lady, which starred Rogers as Captain Colt of the Texas Rangers. Directed by Joseph Kane, the film also featured George "Gabby" Hayes as Sergeant Whittaker, Jaqueline Wells as Jane, Harry Woods as Kincaid and Henry Brandon as General LaRue. A founding member of the Western music group, Sons of the Pioneers (1934), Roy Rogers (1911-1998) broke into films as a singing cowboy the following year. Beginning in 1938, he had starring roles in dozens of Western films featuring his horse, Trigger, and his frequent sidekick, Gabby Hayes. Another frequent co-star was Dale Evans. Roy and Dale co-starred in a number of films, including The Cowboy and the Senorita (1944), The Yellow Rose of Texas (1944), Don't Fence Me In (1945), My Pal Trigger (1946) and Apache Rose (1947), before they were married in 1947. They then starred on television on The Roy Rogers Show (1951-1957) and The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show (1962-1963), which closed with their theme song, "Happy Trails to You", written by Evans. Married for 50 years, "The King of the Cowboys" and "The Queen of the West" were a devoted couple with many children (many whom they adopted) and grandchildren. Lightly creased and soiled, stained at blank left margin. Pinhead-size impressions at upper margin. Stamped on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
