ROY ROWLAND He inscribes a color movie still from Hit the Deck, showing Ann Miller, Debbie Reynolds and Jane Powell - very rare! Photograph inscribed and signed: "To George Sholly/Best Wishes/Roy Rowland". Color, 10x 8. Movie still from Hit the Deck (1955), showing Ann Miller, Debbie Reynolds and Jane Powell. Roy Rowland (1910-1995) worked his way up at MGM from script clerk to director of shorts to director of feature films. His biggest popular and critical successes came in the 1940s with Lost Angel and Our Vines Have Tender Grapes, but he was nominated for Best Director a decade later by the Directors Guild for Meet Me in Las Vegas (1956). Hit the Deck is the only musical on Rowland's list of credits. In the 1960s he directed some spaghetti Westerns, including A Man Called Gringo (1966). He was the father of actor Steve Rowland. Minor surface creases and lightly soiled. Corners slightly chipped away. Otherwise fine condition. Previously authenticated by JSA.
