Autograph sentiment signed: "Yearn for health/Royal S. Copeland/1930", in black ink, 5x3. Royal Samuel Copeland (1868-1938), a homeopathic physician, held city offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan, including Mayor (1901-1903). Moving to New York, he served capably as President of the Board of Health during the influenza epidemic of 1918. Elected to the US Senate as a Democrat in 1923, he was serving his third term when he died in office. He chaired the Copeland Committee (1935), which issued a scathing report on air traffic safety. He was the principal author of the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act of 1938. Binding holes on left margin. Corners slightly worn. Soiled on left margin. Toned. Corners slightly worn.
