RUBE WALKER, JOE PIGNATANO
Signed photograph of the MLB catchers Rube Walker and Joe Pignatano who both played for the Brooklyn Dodgers
Photograph signed: "Joe Pignatano" and "Rube Walker". B/w, 5¼x3½. Photograph depicts seven Brooklyn Dodgers. Pignatano caught for Brooklyn in 1957 and Walker from 1951-1957. Rube Walker (1926-1992) was an American baseball catcher who played for the Chicago Cubs and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers between 1948 and 1958. In his 10 year career, he was a .227 hitter with 35 home runs and 192 RBIs. He also won the 1955 World Series with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Following his professional playing career, Walker joined the minor league as a manager in the Dodgers and New York Yankees farm systems. Later in 1965 he returned to the Majors as pitching coach for the Washington Senators, then the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves, winning the 1969 World Series with the Mets. When he retired from coaching in 1984 Walker began scouting for the Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals. He died of lung cancer in 1992. Joe Pignatano (b. 1929) caught in the Major Leagues with 4 teams (Dodgers, A's, Giants and Mets) between 1957 and 1962, appearing in one game of the 1959 World Series for the LA Dodgers. Having moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles with the Dodgers, he returned to New York as a member of the fabled 1962 Mets. After his playing days, Pignatano was a bullpen coach for many years, planting a vegetable garden there during his long stint with the Mets (1968-1981). Fine condition.
