RUBIN "HURRICANE" CARTER
The boxer inscribes and dates a copy of the book Hurricane The Miraculous Journey of Rubin Carter, written by James S. Hirsch.
Inscribed Book signed: "Saturday, August 28, 2004/To Paul/Dare To Dream/Always,/Dr. Rubin Hurricane Carter, LLD", 358 pages, 6½x9¼. Hurricane The Miraculous Journey of Rubin Carter, by James S. Hirsch. New York, New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 2000. Hardcover with dust jacket. Rubin Carter (1937-2014), who had a boxing record of 27-12 (19 KOs), lost a 15-round decision to Joey Giardello for the World Middleweight Championship in 1964. On June 17, 1966, two men and a woman were murdered at a New Jersey bar, and on Oct. 14, 1967, Carter and John Artis were arrested for the murders. The story of their two trials, two guilty verdicts and two overturned convictions were the subject of the 1999 film, The Hurricane, starring Denzel Washington, as well as the classic Bob Dylan song "Hurricane". Carter received honorary doctorates of law from universities in Canada and Australia in 2005 for his twelve years of work as head of The Association in Defense of the Wrongly Convicted. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
