Signatures from the Hollywood power couple on a 5x3 card
Signatures: "Joy!/Ruby Dee" "&/Ossie Davis," 1p, 5x3. Bold signatures of the stage and screen stars, Dee signing in green and Davis in blue. Davis wrote, directed and starred in Purlie Victorious in 1961; Dee starred in the stage and screen adaptation of Raisin in the Sun in 1959 and 1961. RUBY DEE (1922-2014), a multitalented veteran of stage, screen and television who made her Broadway debut in 1946 , married fellow performer OSSIE DAVIS in 1948, two years after they met during a Broadway production. Over the years, they have appeared together on Broadway (A Raisin in the Sun), screen (debuting in No Way Out in 1950) and television (from Roots: The Next Generations to the PBS series With Ossie & Ruby). The couple has also been active in social causes, including Black voting rights and the fight against sickle cell anemia. Dee has appeared in a number of feature films, including Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing (1989) and Jungle Fever (1991), and also appeared on TV's The Guiding Light. Also an accomplished writer, she co-authored the script for the 1967 film, Up Tight!, wrote the 1975 TV play, Twin-Bit Gardens, and published Glowchild, a book of poetry, in 1972. Multitalented Ossie Davis (1917-2005) In 1963, Davis and Dee participated in Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s March on Washington, and Davis gave the eulogies at the funerals of Malcolm X in 1965 and Dr. King in 1969. Fine condition.
