Typed Letter signed: "Ruby Dee", 1p, 7¼x10½. New Rochelle, N.Y., 1975 December 16. On letterhead of Dee & Davis to Richard Bell, Third World Cinema Productions, Inc., New York, N.Y. In full: "Enclosed is a treatment sent to Third World Cinema Productions, Inc., through me. I'd appreciate your responding to Dr. Jaeger. Hope all's well with you and with the company. Sincerely yours". Enclosure: 'THE CHAMELEON' [not included]" Ruby Dee (1922-2014) a multitalented veteran of stage, screen and television who made her Broadway debut in 1946 , married fellow performer Ossie Davis (1917-2005) in 1948, two years after they met during a Broadway production. Over the years, they appeared together on Broadway (A Raisin in the Sun), screen (debuting in No Way Out in 1950) and television (from Roots: The Next Generation to the PBS series With Ossie & Ruby). The couple was also active in social causes, including Black voting rights and the fight against sickle cell anemia. Dee has appeared in a number of feature films, including Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing (1989) and Jungle Fever (1991), and she won an Emmy in 1990 for her performance in "Decoration Day" on The Hallmark Hall of Fame. Dee, who also appeared on TV's The Guiding Light, is also an accomplished writer. She co-authored the script for the 1967 film, Up Tight!, wrote the 1975 TV play, Twin-Bit Gardens, and published Glowchild, a book of poetry, in 1972. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
