13-cent stamp affixed, postmarked New York, N.Y., April 6, 1976, FIRST
DAY OF ISSUE. Born in Canada in 1923, Marcus is a naturalized U.S. citizen. He
claims to have switched from laboratory work to theoretical - mostly
mathematical - chemistry because he kept breaking lab equipment. Marcus won the
1992 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work on the theory of
electron-transfer reactions in chemical systems. The Marcus theory shed
light on diverse and fundamental phenomena such as photosynthesis, cell
metabolism, and simple corrosion. Fine condition.
