letterhead to Florence Murphy, in full: "Your gracious and
graceful letter gave me much pleasure and gave cheer on a gray morning. I am
delighted to learn that my writings have interested you, and to acknowledge that
your writing has helped me. Gratefully yours" Fine condition. Accompanied
by matching, unsigned envelope (6x4), addressed in signer's hand to Florence
Murphy, Melrose, Massachusetts, postmarked Los Angeles, May 14, 1932. Neatly
opened at left edge. Fine condition. Rupert Hughes (1872-1956), the uncle and
mentor of Howard Hughes, was an author, screenwriter and composer who wrote more
than 50 books. One of his most controversial works was a three-volume
biography depicting the human side of George Washington. Two
