RUSSELL E. TRAIN
The environmentalist who served under Johnson and Nixon inscribes this
photograph mount to an admirer
Inscribed Photograph Mount signed: "To Mike Zebniak -/ With best wishes/
Russell E. Train" in dark blue ink, b/w, 6½x8, affixed to a foam core mount to an
overall size of 11x14. American environmentalist Russell Errol Train
(1920-2012), a WWII veteran and attorney, assisted a number of Congressional
committees, including the House Ways and Means Committee, before serving as
a U.S. Tax Court Judge (1957-1965). In 1961, Train founded and headed the
African Wildlife Leadership Foundation, and he later served as President of the
Conservation Foundation (1965-1969). Appointed to the National Water
Commission by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968, Train was then
appointed Under-Secretary of the Interior (1969-1970) by President Richard
M. Nixon. From 1973-1977, Train was the second administrator of the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Upon his retirement from that
agency, Train once again returned to his work with the Conservation
Foundation. Train's work in the nonprofit and government sectors helped
put environmental issues on the United States president's agenda throughout
the 1960s and 1970s. Lightly toned. Corners and edges worn. Several creases and
indentations along edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
