RUSSELL "RUSTY" SCHWEICKART
Black and white 8½x11 photograph showing the
three Apollo 9 astronauts seated at a table during a German Press conference on January 25, 1969. From the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart.
Photograph signed: "German Press Briefing- From My Personal Collection/Rusty/Schweickart", B/w 8½x11. Glossy press photo with wide top and bottom margins, the three Apollo 9 astronauts are seated at a table with numerous photographers and reporters in front. Dave Scott is holding a model of a docked CSM and LM as he explains the procedure. This was taken January 25, 1969, at a Grumman press briefing. The Apollo 9 crew was Lunar Module Pilot Russel Schweickart, Commander James McDivitt and Command Module Pilot David Scott. The primary objective of the mission was to test the Lunar Module in Earth orbit, including separation, rendezvous and docking with the Command Module. RUSSELL "RUSTY" SCHWEICKART (born1935) became an astronaut in 1963. As the Lunar Module pilot on the Apollo 9 mission, he was to have performed various tests but began to suffer from space sickness-forcing postponement; he did complete the first separation and docking of the lunar module (LEM). Schweickart was awarded the NASA Exceptional Service Metal in 1973 and an Emmy Award in 1969 for the transmission of the first live television pictures from outer space. This piece is from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart. Slightly creased. Lightly worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
