American silent movie actress Stonehouse (1892-1941) was a reporter and short story author before becoming the first leading lady of Essanay Company in Chicago, Illinois in 1911. She was with Essanay for four years, often appearing opposite movie idol Francis X. Bushman, before joining Universal in 1916. Universal let Stonehouse write and direct some of the movies that she appeared in between 1917 and 1919. However, her popularity had waned by 1920, and she spent the rest of her career playing mostly in fallen woman roles until her retirement in 1928. In all, Stonehouse appeared in almost 180 films between 1911 and 1928. Lightly toned, creased and soiled. Irregular left edge. Mounting residue on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
