RUTH CHATTERTON
Vintage photograph of the Oscar nominated actress sitting with her hands on a raised knee, inscribed to collector Saul Goodman.
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To Saul/Cordially/Ruth Chatterton", B/w 8x10. Ink stamp on verso dates signature: April 27, 1939. Ruth Chatterton (1893-1961) went from Broadway to silent films, earning Best Actress Oscar nominations for Madame X (1929) and Sarah and Son (1930). She starred in several television plays of the early 1950s, including a reprise of her critically a acclaimed film role in Dodsworth (1936). In the intervening years, she focused on stage performance and she published several novels in the 1950s. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Pinhead sized black marks. Slightly creased, worn and toned at corners. Light surface scratches (not visible head on). Otherwise, fine condition.
