Donnelly/ '50" in blue ink, sepia, 8x10. Actress Ruth Donnelly (1896-1982) spent half a
century on Broadway and appeared in dozens of films. She played many a wisecracking
matron from the early 1930s onward. Donnelly also enjoyed a highly successful career in
Hollywood as a character actor. A few of the films in which she appeared include Mr. Smith
Goes to Washington (1939), My Little Chickadee (1940), The Bells of St. Mary's (1945),
and her last film, Autumn Leaves (1956). Joseph "Peppino" Micolo owned Peppino's
restaurant on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. In 1950, the year she inscribed this photo,
Donnelly appeared in the noir detective film Where the Sidewalk Ends. Corners lightly
creased. 1-inch diagonal tear at lower edge, 2½ inches from left corner. Otherwise, fine
condition.
