RUTH GORDON
Black and white youthful publicity photograph shown in character from the broadway play The Matchmaker
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "Ron/M Anderson/with best wishes,/Ruth Gordon", Sepia, 8x10. Ruth Gordon (1896-1985) was one of Broadway's biggest stars with such hits as Seventeen, Serena Blandish and Ethan Frome. Late in the 1940s she began collaborating with her husband, Garson Kanin, a brilliant playwright, on projects such as the Tracy-Hepburn comedies Adam's Rib (1949) and Pat and Mike (1952), as well as The Marrying Kind (1952). Gordon returned to the screen for Inside Daisy Clover (1966, nominated for Best Supporting Actress) and Rosemary's Baby (1968), for which she won an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress. Gordon was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best actress for her appearance in the 1971 film Harold and Maude. She was 75 years old during this film. The TV movie Isn't It Shocking?, featuring Alan Alda, Lloyd Nolan and Louise Lasser as well as Gordon, appeared in 1973. Lightly bowed. Corners lightly creased. Ink stamp on verso (no show-through).
