Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "For Don/Ruth
Gordon". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9¼x6½ (one surface). Captioned at lower
margin. Gordon (1896-1985) was one of Broadway's biggest stars with
such hits as Seventeen, Serena Blandish and Ethan Frome.
Late in the 1940s she began collaborating with her husband, Garson Kanin, a
brilliant playwright, on projects such as the Tracy-Hepburn comedies Adam's
Rib (1949) and Pat and Mike (1952), as well as The Marrying
Kind (1952). Gordon returned to the screen for Inside Daisy Clover
(1966, nominated for Best Supporting Actress) and Rosemary's Baby (1968),
for which she won an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress. Gordon was
nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best actress for her appearance in the
1971 film Harold and Maude. She was 75 years old during this
film. The TV
movie Isn't It Shocking?, featuring Alan Alda, Lloyd Nolan and Louise
Lasser as well as Gordon, appeared in 1973. Fine condition.
