The actress signs a note to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, forwarding biographical data for her Theatre World file
Autograph note signed: "Dear Mr. Willis,/Thank you for your recent/ inquiry-- I am enclosing/ my photo (and bio from the N.Y./ program) [items not included]. /With all best wishes. /Sincerely, Ruth Kobart," in blue ink, 6x9. With a career spanning several circuits and many years, actress Ruth Kobart (1924-2002) began in the difficult genre of opera, studying the art at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. After studying for some time, she made her debut as the Witch in a production of Hansel und Gretel, and then went on to tour with several opera groups. After gaining success in the singing world, she transitioned to acting, performing in several Broadway plays, earning a Tony nomination for her role in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1962). Although she appeared in several films and television roles, her roles were much more minor, and she is best remembered for her stage work. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Toned around edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
