SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY CREW (APRIL 1985)
Astronauts Griggs, Bobko, Williams, Seddon and Hoffman sign a commemorative envelope postmarked during the mission.
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Karol 'Bo' Bobko", "Don Williams", "Rhea Seddon", "S. D. Griggs" and "Jeffrey Hoffman", 6½x3½. The printed, color cachet is of the mission emblem. Postmarked Kennedy Space Center, Florida, April 16, 1985, 22-cent stamp affixed. Ink stamp in lower right states: "In flight EVA." Discovery (STS-51D) was launched on April 12, 1985. The flight carried and successfully deployed two communications satellites: Telesat (Canada communications satellite) and Syncom IV-3 communications satellite. The crew also carried out an informal science study of the behavior of mechanical toys in microgravity (Toys in Space). BOBKO was mission Commander, WILLIAMS the pilot, SEDDON, HOFFMAN and GRIGGS mission specialist. Also on the flight were Payload Specialists Charles Walker and Senator E. Jacob "Jake" Garn of Utah, the latter the Chairman of the Senate Committee with oversight over NASA's budget. It was the first flight of a U.S. elected official. Discovery landed at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida on April 19, 1985. Fine condition.
