The year before he received his second Oscar nomination, the
ill-fated actor signs and dates a publicity release form for the Chicago Tribune
- New York News Syndicate.
Document signed: "Sal Mineo", 1 page, 8½x11. No place,
dated by Mineo "1/15/59". Release form granting the Chicago
Tribune - New York News Syndicate permission "to use my name, picture or
portrait, in publications for editorial or promotional purposes, excluding,
however, commercial advertising." At the age of ten, stage and screen actor
Sal Mineo (1939-1976), born Salvatore Mineo, Jr., was cast as a
child in The Rose Tattoo on Broadway. At age 13, he took over the
part of Yul Brynner's son in The King and I. By the time he was
22, Mineo had been nominated twice for Best Supporting Actor Academy Awards
in Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and Exodus (1960). In
1976, the 37-year-old actor was stabbed to death as he returned to
his Hollywood home from a play rehearsal. Fine condition.
