SAL MINEO
Youthful photo of the handsome actor wearing a red polo
Inscribed Photograph Signed in Ink: "To George/Very Fondly/Sal
Mineo" in blue felt tip pen. Color 8x10. Facsimile signature on center
right. Studio printed note on verso including addresses for Columbia pictures
and Walt Disney productions. At the age of ten, stage and screen actor Sal
Mineo (1939-1976) had been casted as a child in The Rose
Tattoo on Broadway. Three years later, Mineo took over the part of
Yul Brynner's son in The King and I. In 1955, in addition to
making Five Bridges to Cross,
Mineo appeared in The Private War of Major Benson and Rebel Without
a Cause, for which he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy
Award. By the time he was 22, Mineo, who had also appeared in Giant
(1956), had again been nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar
(Exodus, 1960). In 1976, the 37-year-old actor was stabbed
to death as he returned to his Hollywood home from a play rehearsal. Binding
holes on the left edge. Edges lightly worn. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
